the smiths southbank show 1987

Terrific, hour-long documentary on the Smiths, talking with members of the band as well as fans, friends, Peelie, et al. Nice insights into their process and influences. Must-see for fans.

Sure, I lost my virginity the very same night that I first heard, ‘How Soon Is Now’, but for the most part I considered the voice of Morrisey akin to moaning in a shoebox. Great guitar work, but not my thing.

It wasn’t until I was living in England and watched them perform ‘Shoplifters Of The World’ on The Tube (while wearing Smiths t-shirts!) that I began to appreciate their humor. This documentary captures them during this period. Great find!
